KNUT, KUPPET differ over cause of unrest in schools

Teacher’s union officials in Uasin Gishu County have differed over the reasons behind unrests that have been reported in several schools across the country.
While the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials say it is as a result of teacher delocalisation exercise conducted by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) thinks otherwise.
Speaking to Education News in Eldoret town recently KUPPET Uasin Gishu branch Secretary Elijah Maiyo (pictured) said indiscipline among students is the major cause of the unrest.
“Indiscipline can occur whether the principal is new or has been there for some time,” noted the KUPPET official.
On the issue of abolition of boarding schools, Maiyo said it is out of order since boarding schools help in tapping talents across the country.
