The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Teachers (KUPPET) has criticized the AGC Tenwek Hospital for denying teachers medical services.
Bomet Branch Secretary Paul Kimetto described the move as unacceptable since teachers have been contributing to service providers approved by the facility.
Speaking in the area, he questioned why teachers can’t get services due to a Ksh100 million debt while public members get services, yet the state has not paid the Ksh600 million debt.
“Why is Tenwek denying teachers medical services?” he asked. “Teachers have a debt of sh 100 million only while the government has a debt of sh 600, but members of the public have not been denied services.”
According to him, the union has been at war with the hospital for many years over the treatment of teachers, whom he says have suffered a lot.

Kimetto now wants Bishop Robert Langat, who also serves as chairman of the hospital’s board of directors, to intervene, saying teachers chose the hospital because of its good services.
“This fight has not started today, and teachers have suffered a lot. We want to ask Bishop Langat to direct the board members to instruct the hospital to offer services to teachers. We chose this facility because of its good services,” added Kimetto.
His KNUT counterpart, Desmond Langat, echoed these sentiments, asking the hospital to offer services to teachers since the debt must be paid.
“Denying teachers medical services is wrong. I want to ask Tenwek to give our members services because, in the end, they must get payment,” stated Langat.
The unions also demanded hardship allowances for teachers working in Nogirwet, Kobolwo, Kipreres, and Ndanai in Chepalungu and Sotik sub-counties.
They noted that the educators face numerous hardships, including frequent wildlife invasion, which has disrupted learning in the area.
