The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) elections will now proceed after the Employment and Labour Relations Court reversed its earlier orders stopping the exercise.
Justice Nzioki Makau sitting in Kisumu, made the orders while noting that the petitioner George Anyona Arek had obtained the same through concealment of facts.
Meanwhile, KNUT secretary general Collins Oyuu has assured the union members that the elections are on, noting that the legal hurdles had been cleared hence paving the way for the exercise.

Speaking ahead of the elections in Kisumu, Oyuu noted that there has been legal impasse since Thursday April 2, the the issue he says has caused an hitch in the whole process. Since the Court has made its final statement, he assured members of a peaceful polls.
Oyuu is expected retain his seat unopposed after no opponent turned out during the nominations held on Thursday, April 2, 2026 in Kisumu.
He further stated that almost the entire KNUT executive were also on the verge of retaining their seats.
