KNUT donates trophies at Kisumu primary schools sports contest

The Kenya national union of Teachers has donated three trophies at the Kenya primary schools sports association championships in Kisumu.

KNUT secretary general Collins Oyuu made the announcement during the official launch at the sporting gala at Kisumu boy’s high school sports grounds.

Oyuu said the trophies will be for boys and, girls, and the overall one.

The official said KNUT will always partner with the Ministry of Education in nurturing talent in the country.

Oyuu who was flanked by the director of field services in the ministry Hussein Duale said the sports bonanza is in line with the competency-based curriculum currently being implemented by the government.

He said students who take part in such activities tend to do well in classrooms also.

Education principal secretary Belio Kipsang in a speech read on his behalf by Duale said some 800 participants are taking part in the national event.

Kipsang said the government has supported such events noting that they have taken off well since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the government in conjunction with FIFA has already trained coaches in all the 47 counties towards soccer development.
