Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Deputy Secretary General Hesbon Otieno has called for integrity among all stakeholders as students start KCPE and KCSE exams.

Otieno called upon the government to deal with cartels involved in exam cheating who end up destroying innocent lives.

“The idea of exam cheating is always fed in learners’ minds by adults,” he stated, adding that where exams are printed isn’t an issue but the integrity of the printers.

The unionist noted that exam cheating is usually planned for a long time and that it’s time for the government to seriously look into factors leading to the same.

Purity Ngina, a researcher at Zizi Afrique Foundation, echoed the unionist’s sentiments, noting further that it’s impossible for an entire class to write the same answers in an exam if they didn’t have prior knowledge of the questions set.

She lamented that it’s also unfortunate that some students go to exam rooms with phones and that despite doing well in exams, they end up failing at their workplaces.
