KNUT brass asks parents to return to their primary responsibilities

Parents in Bungoma County have been urged to put politics aside and now fully focus on their children’s education.

Speaking to the media in Bungoma town, the county KNUT vice chairman Augustine Watamba said as elections were over, parents should now focus on their children’s future.

The re-opening dates were initially set for last Monday, but were changed due to the delay to announce the presidential vote result since most schools were used as polling and tallying centres.

Watamba noted that this year there are two lots of candidates in primary school, and there was no time to waste in preparing them for their final exams.

He urged parents to work closely with teachers to ensure that everything was in order as the children had gone through lots of events during the short recess.

“We have had two events this August; circumcision and the August polls, which may have made many children to turn their focus away from education,” he said, adding that as they re-open they hope the children will adapt quickly.

He further added that parents should not fear taking their children to school because there is peace in the country, noting that security officers have played a major role in promoting and maintaining peace before, during and after the elections.

Watamba said that as teachers, they were ready to embark on their duties and start from where they had left for the betterment of their children.
