KNUT asks TSC to employ teachers to replace those exiting services for greener pastures

Kenya National Union of teachers (KNUT) has asked Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to employ more teachers to replace those retiring or exiting the profession for greener pastures or other appointments.

Gucha South Branch Executive Secretary Kennedy Nyakangi said that the current Competency Based Curriculum entails a lot of detailed coverage that needs enough teaching personnel to handle the curious learners.

“We call upon the Minister for Education to collaborate with the TSC and employ more teachers if they want the CBC to succeed,” he said.

The unionist was addressing Kenya Primary Schools Sports Heads Association (KEPSHA) teachers at Etago Sub-county in South Mugirango Constituency during the retirement ceremony of Elijah Nyangweso.

He termed Nyangweso as a very hard working teacher and a man of greater enthusiasm in sports and asked whoever will take over from him to follow his footsteps.

Until his retirement, Nyangweso was the chairman of Primary Schools Sports Association (KPSSA) in Gucha for the last 20 years.

During his tenure in the sports arena, he helped many learners realize their potential in sports as majority of them excelled acquiring employment in various entities like Kenya Prisons Service and Kenya Breweries Limited among others.

His exit from the service comes when primary and Junior Secondary schools are going on with their second term ball games championships.

Nyakangi requested Nyangweso to join other officials to preside over the sub county primary schools games competitions that kicked off on Tuesday in both Etago and Nyamarambe.

The qualifying teams in KPSSA games will meet at Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School starting July 20.

Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir has appealed to teachers to make adequate preparations for schools that travel from the interior of the sub county to be accommodated near the venue to avoid burdensome and monotonous travels by buses.

“I advise individual teams to coordinate with schools like Kioge Girls, Sister Michael, Nyabururu and Nyanchwa schools to provide accommodation for their teams.

He said that this month will be a busy one in the county as it will hold its Agricultural Show starting next week as well as regional and National Secondary Schools Sports Competitions.

He appealed to the office of County Commissioner to offer enough security personnel during these activities.
