KNUT (Kenya National Union of Teachers) has asked Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to take responsibility for the errors in the 2023 KCPE instead of finding excuses that only serve to add insult to injury.
Bureti Executive Secretary Alfred Rop says it is evident the results had errors and it would be wrong to ignore the matter.
Addressing the press, Rop stated that KNEC should stop excuses and own up to the mistakes, which he termed unfortunate.
“KNEC should avoid excuses and admit its mistakes. Teachers did a commendable job only for KNEC to fail in compilation. This is wrong,” he said, adding that the council should adjust the results of candidates who have complained of being short-changed.
Charging that it was shameful for KNEC to defend their position, he wondered how such avoidable mistakes could be committed by a body that has been managing exams since the inception of 8-4-4.
“Why was the exam council in a hurry to announce the results yet it had all the time? KNEC has managed exams since 1985 and we did not expect it to make mistakes like these,” he remarked.
Yesterday, the High court declined to stop the Form One selection, with the National Assembly Education Committee summoning Education CS Ezekiel Machogu and KNEC CEO David Njengere to appear before it today and answer some of the sticking questions.
