The Kenya National Union of Teachers ( KNUT) will go on strike unless the Teachers Service Commission honours the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that they signed.
Kisii South Executive Secretary Jared Mariera said the fulfillment of the agreement is overdue and revealed that teachers are ready to use the most effective tool – industrial action.
“Our leaders have taught us that the best language the government understands is violence and we shall use it to demand our rights unless they honour the agreement,” he said.
Flanked by his chairperson Beatrice Mauti during the sub-county’s female teachers empowerment meeting, Mariera accused the government of toying with teachers and wondered why the TSC was taking too long to promote them.

In the same forum that was attended by Bomas of Kenya CEO Ednah Kangwana and Gucha KNUT Executive Secretary Lucy Machuki, female teachers were asked to seek elective posts to enable them have a bigger say in society like their male counterparts.

During the meeting, Dr Magdalene Gesare, a Gender Based Violence (GBV) intervention expert, asked female teachers to lead in the protection of the girl child against social ills because as mothers and educators, they are able to comprehend their predicament better than any other person.
“You are mothers and elder sisters of our girls. Please be in their shoes so as to navigate their social journey into adulthood,” she said.
She appealed to all Woman Representatives across the country to join hands and work as a team towards the empowerment of girls to bring positive change in the nation.
