Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Esther Muoria has praised the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) 2020-2025 Strategic Plan terming it a game changer aimed at capturing both current and future academic and qualifications scenario.

While presiding over a retreat to review the Strategic Plan by the KNQA Council on Tuesday at Prideinn Flamingo Hotel in Mombasa, the PS said that the job market is no longer about degrees alone but also attitudes, intrapersonal skills, and to a large extent, soft skills.

“Foregrounding lifelong learning, skills development and emphasizing mechanisms that ensure quality and relevant qualifications are key indicators that this plan is not only up to date but also revolutionary. I commend you as a body for the progress made to date in implementation of the plan,” she said.

Muoria added that the implementation of the plan will receive full support from the government since the State in its quest to implement the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) has prioritized programmes that promote lifelong learning.

“Like other government agencies, KNQA is a critical hand that the government is looking up to, in delivering and achieving the much-anticipated outcomes of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda,” she said.

KNQA Council Chairperson CPA Rosemary Njogu congratulated the government, partners and stakeholders for striving to secure the future of qualifications not just in Kenya but regionally and internationally.

“The Authority prides itself in creating an enabling environment for lifelong learning, fostering quality of qualifications and creating international recognition and comparability of qualification systems,” she noted.

The Strategic Plan aims to emphasize five strategic pillars namely: Registration, Accreditation and Documentation (RAD); Standards, Assessment and Quality Assurance (SAQA); Recognition, Equation and Verification (REV); Planning, Research, Outreach, Strategy and Policy (PROSP) and Institutional Capacity Development (ICD).

Also in attendance was the International Labor Organization (ILO) Representative Geoffrey Ochola, AG Director General, KNQA Dr. Alice Kande among other officials.
