KNEC has warned the public against a fake exam notice circulating online and advised Kenyans to rely on official communication channels.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has cautioned members of the public against a fake examination notice circulating widely on social media platforms.

The council flagged the document as fraudulent and urged Kenyans to disregard its contents.

The forged notice, which bears the KNEC logo and purports to be an official communication from the council, falsely claims that there have been changes to examination dates and formats.

Among the misleading claims are that the 2026 examinations will be exclusively paper-based and that certain institutional reopening dates have been altered.

The document also carries a forged reference number and a purported signature of the council’s chief executive officer, in an apparent attempt to make it appear authentic.

In a public alert titled “Fake Post Alert,” KNEC dismissed the notice as fabricated and emphasised that it did not originate from the council.

The officials warned that the spread of such misinformation could cause confusion among students, parents, teachers, and school administrators, particularly during critical academic periods.

The council advised the public to rely only on official communication channels when seeking information about national examinations.

Authentic updates, KNEC said, are always published on its official website and verified social media pages.

Any major changes affecting candidates or institutions would be formally communicated through recognised platforms and through school administrations.

KNEC reiterated its commitment to maintaining credibility and transparency in the management of national examinations and urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and verify information before sharing it.
