KNEC warns of fraudsters claiming to possess leaked papers of this year’s KCSE

KNEC offices in Nairobi. There are claims circulated by fraudsters on social media that they have leaked 2024 KCSE papers, which have been dismissed by the examinations body.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has issued a warning against individuals falsely claiming to possess leaked Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) papers.

The council issued a brief statement denying reports of national exam leaks, affirming that the documents shared online were fraudulent.

The examination council had to provide clarification in response to reports that the upcoming KCSE exams scheduled for November this year had been leaked and were being circulated via WhatsApp groups.

“Be aware of fraudsters and stay alert,” the examination council warned Kenyans.

The WhatsApp group in question was flagged for allegedly sharing leaked KCSE exam papers, as well as leaks from the Kenya Medical and Training College (KMTC) and Technical and Vocational Education (TVET).

It was also claimed to provide KMTC placement assistance for individuals who were not placed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), charging Ksh7,500 for the service.

The online fraudsters also claimed to manage matters related to certificates, such as replacing lost ones.

The clarification from KNEC comes just two months after Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko revealed that approximately 290 county employees possessed irregular and counterfeit academic certificates.

Ayacko, however, affirmed that the identities of the employees implicated would remain undisclosed until the investigations concluded, aiming to prevent potential legal action.

According to the governor, the certificates that were inspected include KCPE (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education), CPE (Certificate of Primary Education), KCSE (Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education), and KCE (Kenya Certificate of Education).

He also mentioned that these certificates had been forwarded to KNEC, upon which 93 of them were confirmed to be counterfeit, while the remainder required additional verification.
