Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Chief Executive Officer David Njeng’ere announced that the council will introduce a Short Messaging Service (SMS) verification service in April to help parents confirm that their children have been registered for national examinations.

Speaking during the official release of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, Njeng’ere said the tool is intended to curb late complaints and ensure learners in Grade 6, Grade 9, and Form Four are properly captured within the registration timelines.

Njeng’ere urged parents to take personal responsibility for confirming registration, noting that KNEC continues to receive calls after the February–March registration window has closed. “Sometimes we get calls from parents saying their children were not registered, yet the registration period is already over,” he said, adding that the April SMS platform will allow parents to independently verify details and address any gaps before assessments begin.

The CEO emphasised that proactive follow‑up by parents is essential to avoid last‑minute surprises. “I want to invite every parent with a child in Grade 6, Grade 9 and Form Four to take an interest and find out whether their child has been registered,” he said.

He reiterated that the SMS service will be available in April specifically to confirm registration status and ensure no learner is left out due to oversight.

Njeng’ere also highlighted measures KNEC has put in place to support teachers handling senior school assessments under the Competency‑Based Education (CBE).

He added that the council has developed a platform and portal where teachers can build capacity for CBE assessment requirements, providing structured resources to strengthen delivery and consistency across schools.
