The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) portal experienced a temporary technical hitch on Friday, slowing access to the 2025 KCSE results for candidates, parents, and schools.
The outage occurred roughly an hour after Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba officially released the results, prompting a wave of complaints on social media and calls for swift resolution.
Unlike previous years, KCSE results are not available via SMS. CS Ogamba said candidates must access their individual results exclusively online through the KNEC website.
“Individual 2025 KCSE candidates’ examination results will be accessed online through a link on the KNEC website or directly via the URL https://results.knec.ac.ke/,” he announced, adding that results are published immediately upon release.
To retrieve results, candidates are required to enter their index number and any one of their registered names, accept the privacy and access notice, and then search. The ministry said the change to online‑only access is intended to streamline verification and improve data integrity, though Friday’s portal slowdown briefly disrupted the rollout.
KNEC urged patience as technical teams worked to stabilise the platform and restore normal service. Users reported intermittent log‑in failures and delays in loading score pages, with some schools unable to view consolidated results for their candidates.
The council did not immediately provide a timeline for full restoration but indicated the issue was temporary.
KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njeng’ere reminded schools and candidates that all queries related to results must be lodged through heads of institutions within 30 days of release. Queries lodged after 30 days will attract a fee he said,
Despite the brief disruption, the online system remains the single source of truth for the 2025 KCSE results. Candidates, parents, and schools were advised to use the official KNEC link and avoid third‑party sites, which may be unreliable or insecure. The council said normal access should resume once the technical glitch is fully resolved.
Candidates are encouraged to retry the portal periodically and ensure they input accurate credentials. The ministry said it will continue monitoring performance and provide updates if necessary.
