The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), through its Educational Assessment Resource Centre (EARC), has launched a free online, self-paced training portal for Senior School teachers to strengthen the implementation of Competency-Based Assessment (CBA).
The initiative aims to equip teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge required to effectively assess learners under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). The training is fully online and currently accessible at no cost, making it easier for teachers across the country to participate regardless of location.
According to KNEC, teachers can access the portal by visiting https://cbalms.knec.ac.ke, signing up, and completing their profiles. Once registered, teachers are required to navigate to My Courses, select the Senior School course from the course catalogue and subscribe.
Learning begins by selecting a structured learning path, starting with the introduction unit.

KNEC emphasizes that participants must complete one unit before progressing to the next, ensuring mastery of content at every stage.
The self-paced nature of the programme allows teachers to learn at their convenience while maintaining quality standards. The move is part of KNEC’s broader efforts to support teachers during the transition to Senior School under CBC and to promote effective, learner-centred assessment practices nationwide.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, terming it timely and critical in enhancing teacher preparedness as Kenya advances reforms in its education system.
