KNEC invites KCPE candidates with queries to lodge them in 30 days

KNEC CEO David Njengere. he has asked those with complaints about results to lodge them within 30 days of release of the results.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has advised KCPE candidates who have queries to lodge them within the stipulated thirty days for a review.

The examination body similarly advised the candidates to visit their schools and collect the official provisional results slips and raise any query for review of their results, if any, within the stipulated 30 days.

In a press statement, KNEC chief executive (CEO) Dr David Njengere said they have already resolved some complaints raised, saying a total of 133 have been addressed so far this year.

Dr Njengere said all the cases have been addressed and results for the affected candidates updated appropriately, giving the example of the school trending on social media as having all candidates getting 75 marks in Science.

He explained that Science as tested in KCPE is a multiple choice question paper thus making it possible for the candidates to get identical marks.

Though this may be assumed to be an examination irregularity, Dr Njengere said, it is not adequate evidence for KNEC to sanction results without supporting report that cheating happened during the administration of examination.

Dr Njengere also said KNEC has received queries from candidates with low marks, which have also been resolved.

He said it was brought to the attention of KNEC that some results had misalignments of the marks and grades in Kiswahili as they were placed as the Kenya Sign Language, even as grades in Science and Social Studies and Religious Education were truncated incorrectly and were missing the plus and minus signs as expected.

He indicated that it affected only the SMS results due to configuration issues, as the results in the KNEC portal are accurate.

The official said KNEC notified the SMS service provider and the error in the text message was resolved immediately.
