The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced an opportunity for college tutors to be trained as assessors for marking Teacher Education assessments.
In a notice on Tuesday, April 1, KNEC said the training aims to equip tutors with the necessary skills to evaluate Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE) assessments.
The tutors will also be trained to evaluate Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) and Diploma in Technical Education (DTE) assessments.
KNEC has set the training fee at Ksh10,500, payable only to shortlisted candidates. They will receive notifications via SMS and the official KNEC portal.
According to the agency, the programme will comprise online and residential training. Details on access to materials and venues for residential sessions will be communicated later.

KNEC stated that to qualify, one must be a practising tutor or lecturer at a teacher training college, university, or TVET institution.
They must also be registered or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), hold a Degree in Education, and have at least three years of teacher training experience.
Additionally, interested tutors must not be under disciplinary action from TSC, be below 50 years of age, and be recommended by their head of institution.
KNEC directed applicants to register via the KNEC examiners’ portal https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke, where they will submit their details and apply for their respective learning areas.
While tutors already trained and listed in the KNEC database of examiners are advised not to apply, the agency said those without existing accounts would need to create one before proceeding with the application.
Tutors will be trained in various subjects under the DPTE, DECTE, DTE and DSTE categories, including English, Mathematics, Environmental Education and Music.
They will also be trained in fine arts, performing arts, and physics, as well as specialized areas such as mechanics, media technology, and textile design technology.
KNEC will recruit assessors based on subject needs and available vacancies upon training completion.
