The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the discontinuation of Compact Disks (CDs) in the administration of Business and Technical ICT practical examinations, starting from the November 2025 session.
According to a circular signed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. David Njengere, KNEC stated that candidates’ files will now be uploaded directly to a KNEC portal through ICT supervisors during the exams. The supervisors will be deployed to examination centres to facilitate the process.
The Council said the move aims to improve efficiency and security in handling examination files, replacing the outdated CD storage method with a more reliable and faster digital upload system.
All examination centres have been instructed to ensure they have stable internet connectivity during the administration of ICT practicals. Additionally, each centre must provide a new flash disk of at least 32GB for every examination session. The flash disk will be used by ICT supervisors to transfer candidates’ files between computers when necessary.

The shift marks a significant step in KNEC’s modernization of examination processes, aligning with current digital trends in assessment and data management. It also minimizes the risk of data loss and damage associated with compact disks.
KNEC has expressed appreciation to institutions for their continued support and cooperation in the administration of Business and Technical examinations, urging them to comply with the new digital submission system to ensure a smooth examination process in November 2025.
