The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Trans Mara branch has introduced a Diploma in Nursing program, a move that has been widely welcomed by students and parents in the region.
The new program, whose first intake is scheduled for October this year, is expected to ease the financial burden on students who previously had to travel long distances to pursue nursing courses in other institutions.
“This is great news for us because we can now study nursing closer to home without spending a lot on transport and accommodation,” said Linet Cherono, a prospective student.
Parents also expressed gratitude, saying the introduction of the course will open new opportunities for local youth. “Our children can now build their careers right here in Trans Mara. This is a major milestone for our community,” said David Kibet, a parent from Emurrua Dikir.
Area MP Johanna Ngeno said the campus was fully funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) from the ground up, adding that it now offers a variety of medical courses across the board.

“The campus is a significant milestone in expanding access to quality medical training in our region,” said Ngeno. “I am committed to empowering institutions of higher learning by equipping them with modern facilities and skills training opportunities.”
The MP announced plans to fund several key projects, including a KSh 15 million skills laboratory, a KSh 15 million multipurpose lecture hall, and KSh 15 million worth of additional classrooms.
He also revealed that construction of a new student hostel capable of accommodating over 150 learners is 99% complete, with plans underway to build additional hostels for up to 400 students.
Ngeno encouraged investors to explore business opportunities around Kurangurik, noting that the expected surge in student numbers will spur local economic growth.
“The establishment of this campus is not only a win for education but also for the local economy. I urge investors to take advantage of the opportunities it presents,” he added.
The introduction of the Diploma in Nursing program marks a new chapter for KMTC Trans Mara as it continues to strengthen healthcare training and service delivery in the region.
