The long awaited Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Gucha branch of Bomachoge Chache Constituency, in Kisii County will be opened today, April 1, lapsing eight years of wait.
Speaking ahead of the opening, area Member of Parliament (MP) Alpha Miruka said the facility that has taken more than eight years to complete will offer a variety of benefits to the residents including giving priority of admission to the youth from the locality, creation of employment opportunities and increment of land value through the construction of rental houses for both students and the staff.
He added that he will pay registration fees of Ksh1000 for each of the first 100 applicants from his constituency and the neighbouring areas like South Mugirango, Bobabasi, Bomachoge Borabu and Bonchari.
“This college will help in the opening up of this Egetuki area and connect it to other urban centres like Kisii, Ogembo, Suneka and Tabaka through our recently constructed bitumen road.” He said.
He said the presence of a medical college is expected to improve healthcare services in the region, with students and staff contributing to the local economy.

Miruka encouraged residents to take advantage of the new developments and grow more fruits and vegetables that they can sell to the expanded town dwellers, hence generating income to educate their children. “The establishment of KMTC and affordable housing will transform this area into a bustling town, improving the lives of our people,” he said.
The developments come ahead of President Ruto’s visit to Kisii County next week, where he is expected to launch more development projects in the education and transport sector.
According to South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro and Kisii County Governor Simba Arati, the president will launch Kenya Medical College and affordable housing project at Nyangweta and Nyachenge respectively in South Mugirango Constituency, hostels at Gesabakwa in Bonachoge Borabu and commissioning of Nyamache modern bridge in Bobasi Constituency.
Other projects that the president will inspect and open are Kisii University and Kisii National Polytechnic expanded students’ hostels and the Cancer Centre in the region.
Arati appealed to residents to put aside their political differences and unite to welcome the head of state. “Let us come together and show our appreciation for the government’s efforts to develop our county,” he said.
