The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has strengthened its training and outreach operations after Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, EGH, officially handed over eight new vehicles at the institution’s headquarters on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

The addition raises KMTC’s fleet to 158, improving the College’s ability to facilitate student rotations in clinical facilities, rural attachments, and community health initiatives.

The vehicles will also support medical camps, environmental programmes, and social outreach, offering students more practical exposure while boosting healthcare services, especially in marginalised regions.

During the flag-off, CS Duale welcomed new and returning learners to the 2025/2026 academic year, confirming that 11,058 out of an anticipated 15,000 students have already reported.

With 91 campuses spread across 45 counties, KMTC remains a backbone of Kenya’s health training system. By December, the College expects to graduate 22,000 students into the health workforce, thereby strengthening both national and international health systems.

The Cabinet Secretary reiterated the government’s commitment to KMTC, pointing out that 57 campuses have been factored into the Affordable Housing Programme for the construction of hostels and student villages.

He also pointed out that ongoing reforms are aimed at modernising infrastructure, expanding faculty, and equipping institutions to address evolving health demands.

Access and fairness in training remain a priority, with student placements coordinated through KUCCPS and financial aid provided by HELB to ensure learners from less privileged backgrounds are not left behind.

“KMTC plays an indispensable role in building the health workforce, which is the most critical pillar of the Taifa Care Model and Universal Health Coverage (UHC),” CS Duale said.

He encouraged students to approach their studies with diligence, compassion, and creativity.

He also praised the KMTC Board, Management, faculty, and partners for their visionary leadership, pointing out that ongoing efforts are being made to expand facilities and acquire additional vehicles to support training and community engagement.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Director General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth; KMTC Board Chairman Mr Joseah Cheruiyot; CEO Dr Kelly Oluoch; Secretary to Administration Adan Halakhe; Dr Daniel Mwai from the President’s Council of Economic Advisors; KMTC Board Directors; staff; and students.
