The Ministry of Education (MoE) will today release the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results in a low-key ceremony, ending weeks of anxious waiting for thousands of Grade 9 learners and their parents.

The release comes as the Ministry implements a new scoring structure that will determine learners’ transition into senior school pathways.

Under the revised system, the KJSEA results will contribute sixty per cent of each learner’s final transition score. The remaining forty per cent will be derived from school-based assessments administered in Grade 7 and Grade 8, which account for twenty per cent, and the KPSEA scores obtained earlier in primary school, which make up the final twenty per cent.

Education officials say the blended scoring model is designed to provide a more holistic assessment of learners by combining national examinations with continuous classroom evaluation.

The Ministry believes this approach aligns with the goals of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which emphasizes skills, practical learning, and consistent performance over time.

Unlike previous years when national exam results were unveiled through elaborate public events, today’s announcement will be deliberately simple. Officials say the quieter release is intended to reduce unnecessary pressure on learners and promote a more balanced perception of national assessments.

Once the results are made public, schools will be able to access them immediately, paving the way for transition planning and placement into various senior school pathways. The Ministry is expected to issue further guidance on the placement process in the coming days.
