Kitui college calls on county to assist in alleviating perennial challenges

county challenges

The Mutitu Vocational Training Centre (VTC) Manager Joshua Kithikii has decried abandonment by the county government owing to the lack of infrastructure development and other challenges in the institution.

Despite being a public institution based in Kitui County, Kithikii said that the school has lacked water for years now but although he has forwarded complaints to the relevant authorities, nothing has been done.

Speaking to the media in his office on Monday, he added that the VTC also lacks an administration block forcing them to operate from their food store

“We lack water in the institution which leads to total stress to the school management. In addition, we do not have an lack administration block to house our offices. We are forced to operate from a store,” he said.

The manager further decried lack of financial and material support by the government saying that having operations devolved to the county government lead to total paralyzed VTCs.

“We also lack a a basic kitchen which has contributed to us getting warning letters from the county public health department,” Kithikii regretted.

Kithikii called on the county governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe to provide them with a permanent water solution and capitation funds to support the institution.

However, the VTC boasts of a population of 186 students with 107 male and 79 female students, 15 teaching staff and 12 non-teaching staff.

The institution offers training in building and construction technology, carpentry and joinery, electrical and electronics, hair dressing and beauty therapy, fashion design and garment making, metal processing technology and information communications technology (ICT).
