Makueni County Director of Education, Charles Nyakundi, has commended the Kitondo school for its consistently excellent performance in both curricular and extracurricular activities.

Speaking during the school’s academic day, Nyakundi noted that the school has been one of the best in Makueni County, reminding the students that the targeted 9.7 mean score is achievable; they only need to work harder.

He added that the school’s cocurricular activities, especially the rugby team, have been performing well in East Africa and beyond.

At the same time, he thanked the school for not having impostors in the field, encouraging it to distance itself from such, adding that the punishment for such a grave mistake is very severe.

He called for teachers to maintain integrity in sports, reminding them that they should be role models to their students, and bringing ineligible players to eligible games is a bad show to the young ones who look up to them.

“ The rugby team will be heading to national competitions in Western and I am sure they will perform even better than last year,” Nyakundi said.

The director reminded teachers to continue nurturing students’ talent, noting that talent pays and every child should be encouraged to participate in the field so that their abilities can be identified if they have any.

“Well, being in the field itself is very healthy to everyone, it also awakens the students’ minds, helps explore talents and above all, sports is a firm of employment, let us use our talents wisely,” Nyakundi said.

Assistant County Commissioner Waiya Subcounty, Margaret Nguma, encouraged the boys to maintain discipline, adding that there is no good performance without discipline.

“I congratulate you on achieving a mean score of 8.5 last year and breaking the barrier of C+, as you achieved a B plain mean grade, 90 per cent transitioning to university, and 10 students attaining an A- mean grade. Keep it up and do more than this,” Nguma said.

Nguma commented on the principal’s leadership, calling for a general facelift of the school and improvement in performance since 2021, emphasising the importance of boys working hard and achieving good results.

To parents, he reminded them to support their children by engaging them in household duties and encouraging them to revise during the holiday.

“Parents, you have a big role to play in your child’s life. Paying a fee alone is not enough; you must also monitor them closely and be available to notice any changes early, and help them open up to you. Create a good and peaceful environment for your children,” Nguma said.
