A well-drilled and determined St Joseph Boys High School side shocked reigning champions Highway Secondary School with a commanding 3-1 win in a thrilling Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) Term Two football encounter held at the Outfield Grounds of Kakamega High School on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
The Rift Valley giants wasted no time asserting dominance, with forward Instin Simiyu opening the scoring early in the game. Simiyu, in sensational form, doubled his tally before halftime, capitalising on Highway’s defensive lapses. Midfielder Collins Mwalati added a third with a clinical finish, capping off a display that underlined St Joseph’s sharp attacking prowess and solid team coordination.
Highway Secondary, the Nairobi Region representatives and last year’s national champions, found themselves on the back foot for most of the match. Their only goal came courtesy of striker Yusuf midway through the second half, offering a glimmer of hope. Despite mounting several promising attacks, Highway could not break through the resolute St Joseph defence.
For St Joseph Boys, this was more than just a win; it was redemption. The victory avenged their painful 1-0 defeat to Highway in last year’s group stage and reignited their campaign with renewed belief.

Speaking after the match, St Joseph head coach Amos Juma expressed immense pride in his squad.
“This was more than a match; it was about redemption. The boys remembered what had happened the previous year, and we came prepared. We worked on our discipline, our shape, and most importantly, our finishing. I’m proud it paid off,” said Juma.
He singled out Simiyu for his stellar performance: “Instin is a special player. His composure in front of goal today made the difference.”
The win puts St Joseph Boys in pole position to book a semi-final slot and strengthens their reputation as tournament favorites.
Meanwhile, Highway must now regroup quickly and focus on their remaining matches to keep their title defense hopes alive.
