Kitale derby shocker: Simiyu’s hat-trick flattens Solidarity Boys as Wiyeta Girls rise again

Inistin Simiyu, the prolific striker, celebrates after finding the back of the net.

The prolific striker from St. Joseph’s Boys School, “Jobo” Kitale, Inistin Simiyu, has set a record by eliminating the defending champions, St. Anthony Boys Solidarity Kitale, with his goals.

Simiyu, the top scorer in secondary schools in Trans-Nzoia County with over 24 goals scored from the district to the county level, including three goals scored against St. Anthony in the semi-finals, has extinguished the hopes of St. Anthony Boys in their bid for the Rift Valley football title for the second consecutive year.

During the semi-finals, Jobo silenced Solidarity Boys with a 5-0 victory, with Simiyu scoring three goals. This was the first time that Solidarity Boys, who had been champions for a long period, conceded such a heavy defeat.

Last year, St. Joseph’s Jobo, under the leadership of head coach Cosmas Nabungolo, defeated Solidarity Boys 2-0 in the finals, with one of the goals coming from Inistin Simiyu, clinching the County title at Kipkeikei Cherangany.

The 5-0 victory on Wednesday was a big surprise for many fans, who still can’t believe it. This semi-final was a replay of the first one, which had been disrupted at the Ndura Sports Complex in Kitale on June 21.

The boys from St. Joseph’s, who had appeared overwhelmed in the first semi-final, put up an exceptional performance in the replay.

The match was attended by a large crowd, including the Chief Education Officer, Pamela Akelo, the chairperson of the County Heads of Schools for Trans-Nzoia, Masinde Wafula, and several headteachers, despite the match being relocated to another field to manage the number of spectators.

Elsewhere, the former football queens of the region and national champions, Wiyeta Girls, returned to the field after defeating the Rift Valley champions St. Joseph’s Girls “Joga” 3-1 in the final of the Trans-Nzoia County Secondary Schools football competition at Ndura Sports Complex in Kitale on Thursday.

The Wiyeta Girls, under the leadership of head coach Esther Kibor, took to the field with determination to reclaim their title. In the fifth minute, Philia Khayesi scored the opening goal.

Maria Brigid and Maggy Melitas scored the other goals in the 24th and 45th minutes. St. Joseph’s Girls scored a consolation goal in the second half when Rosebella Orwaro converted a penalty in the 68th minute, scored by Flavian Khatenje.
