Secondary shool tutors from Kisumu County have been called upon to go for the Covid-19 vaccination.

Kenya Secondary School heads’ area Chairman Mr. George Nyangwe said it was imperative that teachers take the Covid-19 vaccination in order to protect themselves.

Speaking in Nyakach Sub-county, Nyangwe said that many school heads have so far died as he also knows of over 40 teachers from the region who have died due to Covid-19 complications.

The chairman noted that many school heads have various underlying health conditions hence the need to go for the vaccination.

Nyangwe, who is the principal of Sango Buru Mixed Secondary School in Nyakach Sub-county said teachers should also go for the jab as government directives have stated.

He advised teachers to observe all the protocols in order to guard themselves against the virus which he noted is lethal.

Nyangwe said he has started mobilizing health workers to go to schools to vaccinate teachers.

Teachers Service Commission Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia has in the past expressed concern over the low uptake of the vaccine among members of the teaching fraternity.

The head of civil service Joseph Kinyua has also issued an ultimatum to civil servants to take the jab or face disciplinary action.
