Kisumu National Polytechnic students hold protests again

Kisumu National Polytechnic students have held protests for the second time this week amid claims of the institution’s management declining to meet them to listen to their grievances.

The students, who had first staged protests on Monday, also complained that their representatives are siding with the management hence their grievances aren’t being solved.

One of the students who sought anonymity claimed a number of changes have been made in the institution without their involvement.

The students complained of the high cost of food in the canteen.

“There is no way comrades will pay Ksh30 for one chapati and Ksh15 for one cup of tea,” he said, further noting that the price of food must be brought down.

The principal Catherine Kalonye defended the institution’s move by saying the polytechnic is run by a Council that must ratify such increases before it is passed to students.

Police were called in to restore order and open up roads after the rowdy students stormed out of the institution and barricaded nearby roads thus affecting transport.
