Kisiwa National Polytechnic on Friday held its first-ever graduation ceremony since being elevated to national polytechnic status, marking a major milestone in the institution’s growth and contribution to technical training in Bungoma County. The event saw 2,500 graduands conferred with certificates and diplomas in various technical and vocational fields.

The colorful ceremony, held at the institution’s main grounds, was presided over by Principal Secretary for Higher Education and Research, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, and attended by Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, education officials, and other dignitaries.

Chief Principal Emmanuel Wamalwa hailed the graduation as a defining moment for Kisiwa, crediting the elevation to national status for transforming the institution into a hub of innovation and skills development in Western Kenya. He thanked President William Ruto’s administration for recognizing the institution and announced plans to introduce new courses aligned with job market demands and Vision 2030.

Dr. Inyangala, who officiated both the graduation and the opening of a new tuition block, commended Kisiwa’s progress and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening TVET institutions through infrastructure development, curriculum modernization, and industry partnerships. She urged graduates to create jobs rather than wait for employment, saying technical education is key to Kenya’s economic transformation.

Governor Lusaka praised the polytechnic for empowering youth through technical training and pledged continued county collaboration to promote skills development, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The event, attended by parents, students, and education stakeholders, symbolized both institutional achievement and the growing national focus on empowering young people through practical, skills-based education.
