Kisii University fresher’s parents asked to book hostels ahead of September intake

Parents of the incoming Kisii University first year students have been advised to visit the locality during the August Holiday to make prior arrangements with landlords on the conditions of occupancy to avoid late rushing in that leads to competition leaving many students stranded.

Speaking to Education News in Kisii town, Nyaura location Community policing Chairman Onchuru Marangeti asked parents outside Kisii County to lias with the locals for planning of their Children’s settlement.

“We are ready to assist any one with accommodation problem, they can contact the chief’s office and we shall direct them on how to solve the problems,” He said.

The Chairman cautioned the landlords against overcharging students and accommodating their tenants in unworthy houses with poor sanitation including leaking pit latrines.

He revisited an incident where a female student from the University Slipped and perished in a sinking pit latrine at Menyinkwa Estate and blamed the landlords, warning them against allowing the similar incident to occur again.

He asked business investors to construct good houses near Kisii University to accommodate the ever increasing number of students admitted there every year

The chairman asked the new students who come from outside to stay with the community and conduct themselves well as they gradually adapt to the environment.

His message was echoed in another forum by Nyaukuro High School Principal Zachary Keronche.

When he addressed students on Tuesday during the prize giving Day, he told students who will join University to avoid bad company that might lure them into immoral activities.

“Now we will hand you over to the next step of University education try to carry yourself well when you are there by embracing self-discipline.” He said.

The Principal asked the learners to reflect on the backgrounds of their poor homes and make serious decisions to save their community through hard work  and discipline to  enable them secure employment for sustainability.
