Kisii University Chaplain Fr. Lawrence Nyaanga has called for security to be intensified at the institution due to increase of insecurity cases in the institution lately.

Speaking at the University, the Chaplain said that students were being attacked in the evening hours when heading to and from the library.

“There seems to be an organized gang in the university that is terrorizing our students,” he said.

Nyaanga who is also the National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) county Chairman revealed that the attacked students were robbed of their mobile phones and laptops.

“We have been living peacefully but now we have fears because of the emerging attackers in the university,” he said.

The Chaplain urged students to move in groups as they walk to and from the library to enhance their safety.

“Most of the targeted victims are first year students who are yet to familiarize themselves with the institution,” Nyaanga added.

The Priest condemned members of the surrounding community whom he alleged sold drugs to students thus causing the immoral behaviors.

Nyaanga summoned Kisii County Police and the County Commissioner to convene public barazas with the community aimed at discouraging theft and drug abuse in the institution.

Kisii County Commissioner, Mr. Alan Macharia issued a stern warning to the attackers and added that their days were numbered.

“I have instructed the police to work under cover and bring the suspects to book,” said the Police boss.
