A Form Three student is nursing wounds in hospital after he was involved in skirmishes between supporters of two political rivals in Kisii.

According to his father Jared Bosire, the son was heading home from one of the schools in the periphery of Kisii town when the misfortune befell him.

“I was called and told that my son had been involved in an accident and was rushed to hospital,” he said.

According to Kisii County UDA youth leader Fred Nunda, his faction held a peaceful demonstration against some irritable remarks made by former premier Raila Odinga and Governor Orengo against leaders from the region.

“We wanted the two politicians to restrain from demeaning our leaders at their own home,” he said.

He claimed that their peaceful demonstration, which started at Daraja Mbili junction off Kisii-Nyamataro by-pass, was met by the youth affiliated to the Azimio la Umoja who confronted them.

It was during the melee when the innocent school boy was knocked and caught in the consequent stampede.

According to the police report, three other people including a police man suffered from injuries from stones pelted by the irate youth.

Following the incident, residents from the region have appealed the government to ban all political rallies during weekdays as they distract learners.

Led by former Kisii County governor James Ongwae, the residents urged politicians to hold their rallies on weekends.

“There are schools surrounding the town and if political rallies continue being held on weekdays, these kids are likely to lose a lot,” he said.

The ex-governor asked Education CS Ezekiel Machogu to intervene and declare all political rallies conducted near schools on weekdays illegal.
