Kisii County Weatherman Henry Sese has asked parents with children, especially in primary schools, to provide them with enough warm cloths to protect them from cold related diseases such as pneumonia.
Speaking to Education News at his Kisii office, he warned that the region will experience more rain and cold conditions for the next two weeks.
“This unfavorable weather will stay with us for some time, that is why I want residents to arm themselves with adequate prevention measures,” he said.
Sese noted that such wet conditions encourage rapid breeding of mosquitoes and asked residents to drain stagnant water around their residences and advised children and expectant mothers to sleep under mosquito nets.
He added that his office will work with the Ministries of Health and Interior to create awareness campaigns against usage of mosquito nets to fence their vegetable yards.
“The mosquito nets are issued free of charge by the government to cover family members against malaria and not for fencing,” he said.
The officer caused laughter when he mentioned that one of the private primary schools in Kenyenya sub-county uses the nets to play Volleyball.
Sese called on homesteads and institutions to harvest rain water during this rainy season for utilization during the dry season.
