School principals from Kisii County have decried shortage of technical subject teachers, asking the Ministry of Education to post such teachers there to avoid students’ suffering.

They said that CBE Grade 10 students are ready to join and learn at Senior Secondary Schools but it will be very disappointing when they will realize that they don’t have enough teachers to attend to them.

Speaking to Education News during the second day of grade 10 admission, the principal of Amasege Secondary School in Masaba South Sub county, Robinson Matara said he had admitted 70 students and expected others to report in the subsequent days but expressed fear of lack of enough teachers for relevant pathway subjects especially the sciences.

At Amasago Secondary School in Kisii Central Subcounty, the Principal Israel Ochieng also admitted that the school lack enough science teachers, however refuted rumours that the school has no STEM pathway which entails sciences and asked parents to visit the school for admission.

The Principals message was echoed by his counterparts of Maroo Esinde and Ikoba Secondary Schools from Etago Subcounty.

The Principal of Ikoba Secondary School said, the school had dilapidated roofs and shortage of water but they beat all odds to post an impressive mean grade of 8.5 during the 2025 KCSE examinations and asked the government to chip in and help them improve the infrastructure.

At Endereti and Randani Secondary Schools from Kenyenya Subcounty, the Principals David Mbaka and his neighbour Benard Ososi from Randani said the schools lacked enough teachers in the Technical subjects but said they were prepared to receive Grade 10 learners and hoped the TSC will post enough teachers to the schools to cater for the ever increasing amber of the students joining the schools.

Ososi took the chance to appeal to the students who never attained the University entry marks during the last year’s KCSE examinations to consider repeating or join Technical Vocation Education Institutes to better their careers instead of loitering at home and joining the bodaboda industry which he said is tempting.
