Kisii Polytechnic final year student dies in Saba Saba demos

A final year student of Kisii National Polytechnic has been reported to have died following the fracas that characterized Friday’s Saba Saba demonstrations.

Eunice Mutheu a 23 year old student from Migori County is allegedly said to have been hit with a bullet from the police while she was giving a helping hand in his Brother in-law’s Mpesa shop in Kisii town.

Mzee Mbui the Mpesa shop owner recounts that his shop was sprayed with nine bullets one of which hit her sister in-law during the scuffle between the police and the demonstrators.

“Eunice used to work at our M-pesa shop when she was not at school, I used to pay for her school fees and maintenance” Mbui said.

The tailoring student was scheduled to graduate this year and had come home for the weekend break but was caught up in the protests melee.

“I don’t know why they targeted my shop because other shops around here were not shot at,” he said, showing the holes left by the bullets that tore through the wall of his shop.

“The girl had a bullet wound that ripped through her waist,” Mbui sorrowfully said.

The victim was rushed to Ram Hospital in Kisii Town where she died on Saturday while undergoing treatment. Her family has already lodged a complaint at Kisii Police Station under OB 95/8/7/2023.

Elsewhere in Masare, Migori County, a widow is mourning the death of her son, who was due to start University in September.

Carol Atieno, who works at construction sites, said her son Reagan Otieno, who was shot dead in Migori town on Friday, was innocent.

Kenya Parents Association (KPA) Migori County Chairman Julius Kiberenge, echoed the family’s call for justice.

“This family is poor and the boy was their only hope,” Kiberenge said and asked the government to fast track investigation into the matter to the family justice it deserves.
