Parents from Gesabakwa Primary school in Nyaribari Masaba constituency of Kisii County have expressed fear over the bad state of classrooms in the area.
Led by the school board chairman Mr. Henry Matundura, the parents argued that their children’s lives were in danger since they were learning in dump and wet classrooms because of old roofs that leaked.
‘The most affected are class eight classrooms which host more than forty candidates who are preparing for their KCPE exams. Teachers are forced to shift these pupils to ECDE classrooms and transfer the young ones to the head teacher’s office,’ he said.
They said they had applied to the local NG-CDF several times to fund the construction of the class rooms but that they haven’t received any funds for unknown reasons.
They accused the CDF committee for not telling the area MP Ezekiel Machogu about the worsening conditions of school in the area. They also appealed to the MP to visit the school and see its bad state.
The chairman said that Gesabakwa, one of the oldest primary schools, was built in 1962.
He appealed to the national government, the county government and well-wishers to step in and salvage the school from collapsing.
