Parents in Kisii County have been cautioned against being quick to respond to requests made by conmen who call them in the pretense that their children are admitted in hospitals and are in dire need of money for medical treatment.
Speaking during a class conference session at Riambase Mixed High School in Sameta Sub County in Kisii County, the school’s principal Tabitha Bosibori Anyieni said the conmen use the names of teachers from learning institutions to call pretending to be doing so on behalf of the school.
‘Unfortunately, some parents have fallen victims to such pranks.’ said the Principal.
She advised parents to have the contacts of either the principal, deputy principal or class teacher to enable them do follow-up on their children so that they aren’t conned.
The Principal said that the school, which had a mean standard score of 8.2 last year, has a student population of 2,435 with only twenty six teachers. The school has 591 candidates registered for this year’s KCSE.
‘We have a shortage of teachers and therefore, we request the ministry of education to employ more teachers,’ she said.
The school head added that the institution was in dire need of Classrooms, Library, a dining hall and dormitories.
Anyieni added that the school is planning to build a Science Complex to serve the swelling number of students.
The B.O.M chairman Seth Onditi and Parents/ Teachers Association chairman Zablon Mabiri urged the parents to pay their school fees in advance so that teachers can have ample time to finish the syllabus.
Psychology expert Henry Onyango Monyancha from Kisii University pointed out that parents, teachers and students are all very crucial for any learning institution to excel academically.
