Kisii University and the United Kingdom’s (UK) Manchester University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to begin a student exchange programme.

Speaking in Kisii University on Thursday, Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Nathan Ogechi said that the programme is geared towards sharpening, deepening and strengthening the intellect of students through international cooperation.

“The evolution of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) has made the world a global village and we want to exploit this to advance the education of our youth,” he said.

The programme is part of projects in the Kenya-UK Health Alliance (KUKHA) agreement signed in 2020 by the two countries in London.

Prof. Ogechi revealed that the varsity will dispatch the first cohort of 15 students from the School of Health Sciences to the UK at the end of February.

He said that the students, who are studying to be Doctors, Pharmacists, Clinicians and Nurses, will study for three months on a full scholarship.

The VC revealed that the varsity is at advanced stages in the preparation of accommodation for the incoming students, in addition to expanding the institution’s facilities to become a centre of excellence in the region.

“We have set aside 70 acres of land that will be used for many activities ranging from housing different schools for our institution,” he said.
