The police in Magena of Kenya Sub-county are holding a suspect in connection with selling Cannabis sativa, bhang to school pupils.
According to the Headteacher of Riombasa Primary in Bombaba Ward, Gideon Otwere, he was informed by one of his pupils whose brother had been using the substance sold by the suspect.
The headteacher informed the area Assistant Chief, who acted on the tip to nab the suspect and his accomplices.
“My pupil told me about the secret transactions that have been going on and on interrogation, 11 of my pupils admitted to having been smoking it, ” said the shocked headteacher.
When Education News visited the area near the school, the suspect, who was surrounded by a crowd of irate parents, pleaded for leniency from the headteacher.
“This was the first time I was doing it, please forgive me,” he pleaded.
The head teacher said he had done his part in handing him over to the local administration, stating that he could not allow any person hellbent on spoiling innocent pupils who represent the country’s future.

Kenya Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner, William Bett, lauded parents for coordinating with teachers and the local administration to weed out criminals selling drugs to gullible children.
“Children are like young trees growing in a nursery bed that need constant nurturing to grow well,” he said.
The incident comes barely one week after the Deputy County Commissioner held a public baraza at Mogonga Market near the school and disbanded the market committee for failure to control underage girls working as barmaids in the town.
He warned bar owners against employing girls under 18 as barmaids, stating that failure to comply with the order would result in the closure of their businesses.
He said that his office had been informed about people involved in the sale of drugs and instructed the area head of DCI James Sigei to investigate them.
Residents identified Nyabisia Bridge, the area behind Omoringamu SDA, and the backstreets of Mogonga town, as well as the banks of the Moganga River, as the main hotspots where bhang traffickers ply their illicit trade.
