Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has announced a substantial allocation of Ksh 145 million for secondary education in the 2023-2024 financial year.
Addressing residents during the Jamhuri Day celebration at Mosocho Grounds, Arati detailed the distribution of Ksh 3 million to each of the 45 wards, specifically earmarked for secondary school students.
Anticipating an enhanced educational landscape, he revealed an augmented allocation of Ksh 225 million for the upcoming financial year.
Under this plan, each ward is set to receive Ksh 5 million, dedicated to vocational training students.
In a significant fulfilment of a campaign promise, Governor Arati underscored the county’s commitment to absorb Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers into permanent and pensionable employment.
Initiating this process in compliance with the law, the county government has actively invested in infrastructure, including the construction of 128 ECDE classrooms.
This momentum is set to continue in the following year, with plans to erect an additional 145 ECDE classrooms and 20 workshops in various vocational training centers.
Beyond education, Governor Arati emphasized the county’s dedication to sports and culture, with ongoing renovations at Gusii Stadium.
He also pledged to establish talent academies across all sub-counties to nurture emerging champions and announced the county’s takeover of the Kisii town library. This move aligns with the commitment to bolstering reading culture by stocking libraries, providing internet access, and equipping them with ICT gadgets, thus establishing ICT hubs for e-learning, innovation, and e-commerce.
