Kisii Education Board to close non-compliant schools

By Enock Okong’o

The Kisii County Education Board would close all public and private schools that would not comply with the new guidelines on the registration of schools.

Speaking at his Kisii office, the Board Chairman Prof. Henry Onderi said that the Ministry Of Education had sent circulars to institutions explaining the seriousness of the matter. The chairman asked the principals and head teachers to adhere to the directives because that was in conformity with the new Competency Based Curriculum.

Prof. Onderi said that heads and directors of schools had enough time up to 2023 to prepare their institutions to get to the required standards of the curriculum.

He added that, after the new registrations of schools are over, approvals will be made by the board in conjunction with the Ministry Of Education.

The chairman told the Boards of Management of secondary schools in the county to prepare adequately to enable them accommodate student’s double intake in 2023.

Concerning the new admissions for both primary and secondary school learner, the professor cautioned parents against taking their children to unapproved schools that exploits them and end up giving their children sub-standard education.

He asked parents to report any school that they knew was charging extra fees to the authorities.
