Kisii County will hold its regional games activities on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Cardinal Otunga Mosocho, Kisii School and Gusii Stadium, Education News has learned.

The three venues were identified as hosts to decongest the competitions, which will run for about two weeks.

Kisii County Secondary Schools sports secretary Mr Walter Ontweka revealed that during the two-week events, schools will compete in handball, rugby, and basketball, plus other indoor games like table tennis.

Meanwhile, parents have been asked to assist their children to discover their talents as they grow.

This was said by St. Paul’s Gekano High School games teacher Mr.Wifred Ongwenyi, who noted that sports are very important in the holistic growth of a learner.

He said that apart from assisting the youth socialize with their peers, sports can help them to get employment and earn a living.

The teacher, who accompanied his hand ball team to Ndonyo Secondary School in Kisii County for a friendly match, said that the Nyamira school had prepared its teams well for the term’s games activities.

He said that during the county handball competitions, St. Paul’s Gekano High will face their old rivals Nyambaria National for the county championship.

“We have trained our boys well in spite of the congested learning programmes in second term,” he said.

Mr. Ongwenyi appealed to school principals to create an enabling environment by providing games resources for teachers to train students effectively.

“Some principals are not free to allocate funds to develop sports and this has always demoralized games teachers,” he lamented.
