The Kisii County Government has set aside Sh3 billion from its Education Fund to support bright, needy learners, signalling a major scale‑up of bursary financing across the county. Deputy Governor Elijah Abebo said the programme is designed to ensure that children from low-income households have access to quality education and remain in school.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Simba Arati, Abebo presided over the issuance of bursary application forms to secondary school students and their parents, emphasising that the process would be anchored in transparency and accountability. He noted that education remains central to the county’s development agenda and that the administration is committed to expanding support to deserving learners.

The county has increased the bursary award per successful applicant to Sh5,000, up from Sh3,000 last year, in a move officials say will cushion families against rising costs. Kisii Central Ward Representative Wilfred Monyyenye said his ward has been allocated Sh6 million, with each approved applicant set to receive Sh5,000 toward their education needs.
Officials added that since 2022, residents have seen sustained investment in education projects under the devolved system, which has improved service delivery and brought programmes closer to wananchi. The county leadership urged parents and students to complete applications promptly and adhere to guidelines to ensure equitable distribution of the funds.
