Kisii County disburses Ksh145M bursary cheques for needy students

The Kisii County government has allocated Ksh145 million in bursaries to support needy secondary school students to alleviate financial burden on parents and boost education standards.

While distributing the cheques at Gusii Stadium, Governor Simba Arati noted that each ward will receive Ksh3 million but assured residents that the kitty will be increased to Ksh5 million next year.

He disclosed that the programme had been discontinued four years ago but through a supplementary budget, the current administration saw it wise to return it to support its students’ education.

To ensure transparency in disbursement of the funds, Arati said that the money would be sent directly to the respective 1,250 schools where beneficiaries were enrolled.

“Students will receive acknowledgement vouchers which they will present to their schools. The schools will then verify the details and issue official receipts,” he said.

The Governor urged the students to take advantage of the opportunity and strive for academic excellence.

He reiterated that the county government was committed to supporting their education.

The county boss also encouraged the students to avoid engaging in immoral behaviour that could jeopardize their future and undermine their parents’ efforts in supporting their education.

Arati stated that the county government would hire Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers on a permanent basis once the Public Service Board was established.

He advised the beneficiaries to work diligently and achieve impressive academic results, as this would demonstrate the value of the bursary programme.
