Grace Community Centre, a Community Based Organization (CBO) in Kisii has said that it will continue to reach more school girls in order to fight period poverty and enable them to continue with their studies even during their menses.
While addressing residents in Kisii town, the chairman Mr.Richard Rachami said that they had been supplying reusable and affordable sanitary towels to school girls for the last six years.
“Some girls, especially those from poor homes are forced to stay at home during their periods at the expense of their studies,” said Mr. Rachami.
The chairman appealed to parents and women leaders from the county to collaborate with his organization to promote the programme because apart from being cost effective, it created employment to many jobless youth in the county.
“We need people to train in this work and others to transport and sell the towels. This will create employment opportunities,” he said.
He expressed optimism for the programme while commending the governor, Simba Arati for pledging to lend a hand through his wife who assured them of same once the funds will be made available.
