The Kisii County government, in partnership with Kisii and Manchester Universities, has trained experts to handle ambulance services in the region.
Speaking at Kisii University on Friday during the graduation of the first cohort of 24 graduands, Governor Arati thanked the two universities for the partnership, saying that the trained personnel will improve health services in hospitals, schools, and other social institutions.
“Anyone can fall ill anywhere at any time, and the prompt response of trained ambulance workers will help our people access medical facilities quickly,” he said.
Arati revealed that, in addition to offering advanced training to health workers in the county, his government will purchase nine ambulances to be stationed at each of the nine sub-counties in Kisii. These vehicles will transport patients from rural areas to Kisii Hospital and other health facilities like Nyamache, Nduru, and Gesusu.
Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof. Nathan Ogechi said that out of the 24 graduands, 2 are from Kisii University, while the rest are from Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

He said that the graduands are trained and equipped with modern health skills, including emergency patient transportation and care, advanced first aid provision, and in-house disaster management and prevention.
He added that the training will continue periodically, marking the culmination of the educational training partnership signed between Kisii and Manchester Universities last year, with Kisii County government now joining them.
“This is a long-term inter-university collaboration that partly involves Kisii County Government, with the ultimate aim of establishing a strong healthcare system both in the country and internationally,” he said.
