Kirinyaga police launch manhunt for culprit who raped JSS teacher

Nyamira murder

Kirinyaga Police have launched a manhunt for a man who raped a Junior Secondary School (JSS) teacher in Gitwe area, around Kirinyaga University, in Kirinyaga sub-county.

The 29-year old teacher was reportedly returning back to her house after escorting her child to school at 6:30am, when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Her colleague at Gitwe Primary School, Rosemary Kinyua, narrated that she was heading to school when she heard the victim calling her from a bush asking for clothes to cover herself.

“I then immediately rushed and informed the head teacher who rushed her to the hospital after reporting the matter to the Police, who arrived at the scene promptly,” she said.

Also at the scene was the victim’s father who arrived after being informed of the news by his son.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kirinyaga branch Executive Secretary, Njogu Mbui, condemned the incident, decrying the rising insecurity in the area, a situation that has rendered the area unsafe, especially for women.

“We have launched investigations and we will arrest the culprit. We welcome any helpful information from members of the public.” Mworia said.
