Sh20 million has been disbursed in form of bursaries to various secondary schools in Kirinyaga Sub-county this financial year.

According to the area MP John Munene Wambugu, cheques worth Sh20 million will go to over 40 secondary schools. This will benefit over 7000 secondary school students in the sub-county.

“We are here today to give out bursaries worth Sh20 million to various secondary schools to cater for school fees,” Wambugu said.

The event was attended by few NG-CDF representatives due to Ministry of Health guidelines on Covid-19.

“We have been doing the event in public barazas but due to Covid-19 we have been forced to do in our headquarters but I assure you it is transparent,” the MP added.

The legislator challenged school principals to produce good results to raise the image of the sub-county to national level.

During the event Karia Boys Principal who is the chairperson of all principals from Kirinyaga Central said the NG-CDF is an equalizer that has allowed the vulnerable students to complete their studies like others.

He added that the development in school has been boosted especially in laboratories.

“Apart from children from poor backgrounds getting school fees through bursaries, I can say that the kind of infrastructural development we’ve done in our local schools over the last three years has not been witnessed before,” the chairperson said.

MP Munene recounted some years back how learning used to be disrupted for some bright students for lacking school fees, hence his decision to prioritize education in Kirinyaga Central constituency.

He said he will ensure that he provides all the children with a conducive learning environment.

The first time legislator further appealed to parents to look after their children, especially during this Covid-19 crisis citing the increased pregnancies since the outbreak of the virus.
