Kipsangui Boys principal transferred after students’ foiled attempt to torch dormitory

Kipsangui transferred

Kipsangui Boys principal Richard Tuimur has finally been transferred after a series of demonstrations by students and a section of Kispangui residents.

The move comes barely a week after the second attempt by the students to torch the school dormitory last week.

Uasin Gishu County Director of Education (CDE) Issack Khalif Hassan said that they have already done investigations on the issues that were raised by students and parents.

“I want to confirm that the Kipsangui Boys principal has been transferred to Nandi County. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has already transferred the principal and the new principal is at the school and teachers have resumed,” said Khalif Hassan.

He said that students have resumed their studies after last month’s unrest.

“Most of the issues which were brought up by students and the community have been addressed while the case between the old boys of the school and the administration has been withdrawn,” added Hassan

The CDE, who toured the school yesterday, however stated that there were some challenges which were yet to be addressed within the school board but assured stakeholders of the same in due time.

“Many of the students have been punished because of lack of school fees. Corporal punishment has been outlawed in Kenya but the principal has always suppressed grievances from stakeholders instead of addressing them,” said one of the parents.

He added that Mr. Tuimur’s weakness for the last three years was his hesitation to address pressing challenges raised by students over the poor state of the school’s dormitories and other critical infrastructure.
