Kipkelion East Member of Parliament Joseph Cherorot has called on the Ministry of Education to deploy more teachers to his constituency to replace those who have been transferred out of the area. He stated that the transfer of teachers is significantly affecting educational activities in the region.

Speaking during a meeting with school principals and board of management officials from Kipkelion East, Cherorot urged schools to be patient with the government amid the nationwide outcry over delays in the disbursement of education funds.

“We want a replacement so that those schools cannot be disadvantaged—especially when it comes to subjects that those teachers were actually teaching,” said MP Cherorot.

“I will work hard to make sure that I follow up with the ministry. I have to push so that the government follows the right procedure when teachers are being transferred.” He emphasised

However, school heads said that many activities, including the payment of staff, will be disrupted if the delay in sending these funds continues.

One of the school heads, who spoke during the meeting, called on the government to address the funding crisis urgently.

“We are appealing, through our Member of Parliament, to see how best capitation can be improved in our schools. As we speak, some schools have received nothing—zero—in their accounts, and yet the normal operations of the schools are expected to continue,” the school head said.

“It is very difficult for the head teacher to run the school without capitation. Previous records show that capitation has been dwindling. For example, in the last disbursement we received last week, some of our schools did not get any money at all.”
